Hurler is a selective herbicide specifically designed to control problematic weeds in both newly sown and established grass leys. It is safe to use on all types of grass and can even be applied to silage ground in the same year as harvest. Hurler provides excellent control of broad-leaved dock, and common chickweed, and reduces the top growth of common nettle.
When applying Hurler to newly sown grass leys, it is best to do so in early autumn when the grass is well established, tillering, and actively growing. The maximum rate for newly sown grass leys is 0.75 litres per hectare. For established grass, the timing of applications will depend on the growth stage of the target weeds.
To achieve the desired level of control, all weeds should be pre-flowering at the time of Hurler application. For broad-leaved dock, spring application at the rosette stage is recommended. It can also be applied 14 to 21 days after cutting when the weed foliage has regrown. If necessary, repeat the treatment the following year. For common nettle, applications should be done while the nettle is actively growing, preferably no later than mid-June. The maximum rate for established grassland is 2 litres per hectare.
Animals can re-enter fields treated with Hurler as early as 3 days, provided that the foliage of any poisonous weeds, such as ragwort, has completely died and become unpalatable.
To achieve the best control, a water rate of 300 litres per hectare is recommended for established grassland, which can be increased to 400 litres per hectare for extremely dense swards. For newly sown grass leys, the water volume can be reduced to 150 litres per hectare. Hurler should be applied as a medium spray at a pressure of 2 to 2.5 bar.
