Calsea Zinc Mineral block is available in 15kg. It contains Zinc, Chelated Zinc, Iodine, Cobalt and Selenium to help prevent setbacks and improve foot and skin condition. The block is also suitable for sheep and can improve bull fertility. It is effective against lameness, foot rot and ringworm. Zinc is essential to all animals metabolic activity. It is found in all body tissues which are high in protein. Early signs of a Zinc deficiency include reduced feed intake and growth rate. If the deficiency is not treated it can lead to inflammation of the nose and mouth, unthrifty appearance, stiff joints and swelling of the feet. The block should be positioned in an appropriate area of the cow housing facility where all cows have access to. They are best placed near to but not next to water and should be around 1.5m - 1.8m off the ground for cows. It can also be given to cattle and sheep. The elevated placement will help optimise salivation which will support the rumen buffering. The amount of blocks you need depends on the size of your herd. There are three types of holders; Heavy duty metal holder, Plastic wall holder and a Pasture holder. The heavy duty metal and plastic wall holder is designed for the 15kg block. It is recommended that there is one block for every 20-30 cows. A slight deficiency can impact on the welfare and performance of the animal. Mineral and trace element requirements can change every day due to stress, weather, age or time of the year. Livestock do not receive everything they require from forage so the block is a cost effective solution as cows have free access to it.
