Lucerne is a nutritious addition to a horse's diet, especially for horses that benefit from additional nutrients in their diet. Lucerne has a relatively high protein content. In the Hartog Lucerne Mix, the leaves are included in the mix because they are higher in protein than the fibrous stem.
